Caimanera Hotel is located in the fishing village of the same name, which is in the heart of the Bahía de Guantanamo, better known as Guantanamo Bay. The South of the village is actually bordered by the Guantanamo Bay US Naval Base.

La Lupe Villa is another quality Islazul proposition and our recommendation of choice in the area. Its 50 rooms are located 5 km out of town on the road to El Salvador. Villa La Lupe–named after a song composed by the late Rebel Army Commander Juan Almeida–is an attractive rural resort with a mixed clientele (Cubans and travelers).

First the good points... This hotel enjoys a superb position on the north flank of Lago Habananilla, a lovely lake framed by the dramatic Sierra del Escambray mountains. The hotel is also a good base for hiking or horse-back rides into the mountains, or for fishing. And your fellow guests are sure to be restricted to Cubans, so it´s a good chance to mingle with locals. Now the bad points. Let´s start with just getting there, which is a harpy.

When you´re ready to escape the insufferable heat that overwhelms Santiago in summer, follow the steep, snaking road that leads up the mountains to Gran Piedra ("Great Rock"), a massive rock, estimated to weigh more than 63,000 tons. The namesake hotel, at a crisp 1,225 meters, perches on the mountain ridge just below the rock and is surrounded on three sides by pine forest.

This is a pleasant fishing resort some 18 km off the highway to María la Gorda outside of Pinar del Río. It consists of 12 thatched cabanas and is located directly below the dam that created the Embalse Laguna Grande, which is presently stocked with bass.The primary attraction here is the fishing although we have heard slightly mixed reports so it is worth checking before you visit.

Billed as Cuba´s leading eco—resort, this lovely woodsy hotel, a two-hour drive west of Havana, doesn´t live up to the billing but is nonetheless a delight in so many other regards. Surrounded by pine trees, it squats atop a hill overlooking the quaint mountain community of Las Terrazas (a purpose-built, post-revolutionary model village laid out around a large lake in terraces below the hotel.

Islazul Sierra Maestra, previously known as Hotel Carrusel Sierra Maestra, is located about 3 km southeast of town towards Santiago de Cuba.a.

This motel is located 3 km South of town on the road to Manzanillo and is locally known as “Casa Central”. This is a good value budget place where the service is typically very good and the rooms, located in comfortable houses, not half bad.

This reclusive hotel sits on the banks of the Yara river, amid forest at the base of the Sierra Maestra, about 15 miles south of the town of Bartolomé Masó. It´s pretty much at the end of the road—just getting here on your own by car has your heart racing on the frighteningly steep hills. The raison d´etre for visiting is to either hike to Pico Turquino or to the Comandancia de la Plata.
