Old Havana - Review of all hotels
Old Havana is the place to stay of choice for most tourists for its rich history and architecture. Habaguanex (the commercial wing of the Historian's Office) runs a number of charming smaller boutique hotels, although if you want more amenities and a pool try the Saratoga or Parque Central (which are located around Parque Central - see below)

Vedado - Review of all hotels
Vedado was the first real suburb of Havana and is home to many gorgeous mansions which add so much character to the city. As Havana expanded Vedado became much more central and now is mid-way (10 minute taxi ride) between the old city and the Western suburbs of Miramar / Playa. It is also home to the historic Nacional, Habana Libre (formerly Hilton) and Riviera Hotels.

Cuba has nearly 300 hotels and over 42,000 hotel rooms. The quality varies from your 5 star all inclusive luxury complexes run by international groups including Sol Meliá, Occidental, Oasis, Bleu, Superclubs, Iberostar and Accor, to smaller boutique places generally run by one of the Cuban state owned hotel chains and everything in-between.
Prices for rooms are generally comparable with Cancun / Dominican Republic (although the revaluation of the CUC reduced this competitiveness in 2005). Services and quality at the top end is
certainly present, in the middle 2-3 star segment quality is more inconsistent especially regarding food quality.
We have reviewed below all of the hotels available in Havana and give you our entirely independent lowdown on these. With most of these hotels we have included a booking option which is primarily processed through the UK specialist Cuba travel agency, Cubaism. This offers significant discounts to quoted room rates and are, we believe, the most competitive available on-line (prices quoted are low season rates for a standard room).
