The Hubert de Blanck theatre company opens Abelardo Estorino's version of The Wizard of Oz, an original play by Frank Lyman Baum, under the artistic direction of Marcela García y Fabricio Hernández. Teatro Tres premieres El contrabajo, a monologue by German writer Patrick Süskind. This play tells the story of a musician who ends up feeling like his double bass: indispensable to his orchestra, although relegated always to the body of musical instruments, never a soloist. Performed by Roberto Perdomo and directed by actress Susana Pérez, who is also responsible for the adaptation and the production.

A real publishing success has been the reprint by Ciencias Sociales Publishing House (Economy Collection) of researcher Guillermo Jiménez's Los propietarios de Cuba. 1958, whose first edition in late 2006 sold out in just a few days. The book, which is organized in dictionary form, lists 551 selected influential and powerful Cuban businessmen, owners, professionals, and landholders at the triumph of the Revolution, and includes their total properties, resumes, and information on their immediate family and relatives "devoid of ethical qualifications, academicism.doctrinal adjectives and personal judgements." Its author, whose book had already published with repeated editions by Ediciones Universal (Miami Fla, 2000), Mercie Ediciones (La Habana, 2002), and Ciencias Sociales (2004), has degrees in History and Law from the University of Havana and has occupied several managerial positions with the Ministries of Foreign Trade, the Interior and the Armed Forces. On sale at bookstores in Havana.

Traditional popular festivity whose origins can be traced back to 1576 when freed slaves were given permission by the town council of Havana to participate in the procession of the Corpus Christi, and later, when the African councils celebrated Epiphany and paraded the streets up to the Plaza de Armas to pay their respects to the Captain General. The Malecón, from Galiano to 23rd Streets will be the setting for the parade of colourful comparsas and floats. In the surrounding area of the Maceo park, dance competitions will be held with the performance of the popular orchestra Adalberto Álvarez y su Son. At the site known as La Piragua on Calle O and Malecón, the orchestras of Pupy y los que Son Son, Pachito Alonso y sus Kini Kini, Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco, and NG la Banda will be performing nightly.
