Directed by Carlos Díaz, Teatro El Público continues this month with this play by theCuban narrator, poet and playwright Abilio Estévez, with one of the most talented, intelligent and versatile actors of today’s Cuban stage--Osvaldo Doimeadiós. Theplaywright and critic Norge Espinosa points out that “The main character of this maskball is Josefina Beauharnais, a Cuban woman of French descent, which comes from theeastern part of Cuba…She says she is 120 years old with 103 on her own since she was 17and left her parent’s home to try her luck in Havana, a place she never reached. Thecharacter’s conflicts fashion the suffering of a long life with hurt, pain, nostalgia andloss, but the play is also about man’s ability to live, to give density and risk to hisexistence.”

This unique International Urban Dance Festival: “Old Havana, City in Movement” was first held in1996 in two or three small museums located in Havana’s Historical Centre, eventually bringing intoplay most of the institutions, plazas and streets of Old Havana. Aiming to link dance choreographywith the visual and expressive nature of the old city, as well as seeking to interact with passers-by,the event, organized by the Retazos Dance Company directed by dancer and choreographer IsabelBustos, is attended by hundreds of foreign and Cuban guests.
