Cuban Weekly News Digest is a free , weekly email containing a compilation of news articles and interesting commentary about Cuba. The editor, James Hitchie, went to Cuba in 1992 with a Canadian junior mining company "Holmer Gold Mines Limited" and has remained connected to Cuba ever since, First with mining companies, then oil and gas, then resort development and now companies involved in all facets of the Cuban economy.

A predecessor publication, The Cuban Investment Letter, was a monthly printed letter started in 1992 as a way of keeping foreign management based in Cuba up-to-date on local business news. This was converted in 2002 into the much more efficient email, the Cuban Weekly News Digest, which includes articles covering all topics to do with Cuba.
